This interactive science-fiction story both encourages students to use their imagination to find scientific solutions to the situations encountered by the story’s characters and provides a strong foundation for post-performance discussions and exercises using the accompanying Teachers’ Notes.
Using scientific methodology and the concept of ecosystems, our hero Doctor Sarr and the audience conduct a study that concludes the Plains Wanderer bird, is under threat. Convinced that nobody will help, he formulates a daring plan to acquire a spaceship and build a bird refuge on another planet! However, once in space, he discovers a stowaway, young Eunice. For both of them to survive they’ll need to grow more food and conserve water. The audience are asked for solutions.
The new planet is a stunning world of flowers and alien bees, but when Eunice accidentally releases grass seed from Earth it sprouts quickly and stops the bees feeding. Sarr releases grasshoppers to eat the grass but they eat the flowers instead. Just like Earth, feral animals are now threatening this ecosystem. Can the audience help save the planet’s environment & the Plains Wanderer?
What a versatile performer! A very good show which demonstrated to the Drama students that you don’t need high tech - simple props were very successful. The way the educational material was woven into the performance was excellent! Mark was very pleasant and well organised. Happy to chat with Yr 12 students after the show.

Students were engaged and found the show amazing. Most of the teachers followed up and commented that their students were able to talk about the messages of the story. I also followed up with my library classes and they all loved it.

The storyline involving facts and fiction was well received by the audience. Mark’s use of props is always a highlight of his performances and his story telling skills shine.
